Giardiasis: UK travellers warned over parasitic stomach bug as cases soar

People returning from holiday are being told to take precautions against a parasitic stomach bug following a 10 per cent annual surge in infections.

Figures from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) show 6,069 giardiasis cases were reported in 2025 – up from 5,450 the previous year and the highest total since 2016.
