The Indianapolis Colts surrendered seven sacks of quarterback Nick Foles last week and that has the blitz-happy New York Giants smelling blood in the water.
Not only does Wink Martindale’s defensive unit lead the league in blitz rate, but they have also turned up the heat off the edges since the return of linebacker Azeez Ojulari.
Martindale has no idea what his players are thinking ahead of the crucial Week 17 matchup, but he knows the opportunity to create havoc is there.
“There’s definitely blood in the water,” Martindale told reporters on Thursday.
Martindale, like many other members of the organization, would also like to hear the fans make a difference on Sunday. He wants them loud and raucous so that they negatively impact the Colts’ offensive line.
“Here’s what we need: We need playoff fans to show up for this game and be as loud as they can be. I know it’s New Year’s Day, so if you have (a party) going on on New Year’s Eve, keep it going. And take it all the way through the game. If not, get plenty of rest and be ready to be loud on Sunday.”
With a win, the Giants would punch their first ticket to the playoffs since 2016.
