The New York Giants defeated the Green Bay Packers, 24-22, on Monday Night Football.
With the win the Giants officially end their multi-game primetime losing streak. They improve to 5-8 on the season and have built a one-game lead on the Washington Commanders for third in the NFC East. They are also just one game out in the NFC Playoff hunt.
While there are a lot of candidates for player of the game on the defensive end (not to mention Wan’Dale Robinson), this game’s honors will go to the undrafted free agent Tommy DeVito.
DeVito played a very solid game and capped it off with a game-winning drive in his prime-time debut in Week 14. The rookie was a true dual-threat on Monday as he finished with 158 passing yards and a touchdown in addition to 71 rushing yards.
DeVito was also very efficient all around as he completed over 81 percent of his passes (while posting a 113.9 passer rating) and averaged 7.1 yards per carry. Another important note is that his pocket presence was much better this game as he did not take one sack
DeVito’s biggest moment on the day came when he led a 57-yard drive with 1:33 remaining to give the Giants the victory. On this drive, Devito completed four straight passes for 53 yards to drive down the field. This is his first career game-winning drive.
For an undrafted free agent, this is an amazing start to his career as he has now won three straight games. This is also DeVito’s third straight game without an interception and fifth straight game with at least one passing touchdown.
The Illinois product will have a chance to build on this next in the Superdome.
