Giants’ Tyrod Taylor remains hospitalized after suffering rib cage injury

New York Giants quarterback Tyrod Taylor left Sunday’s 13-10 overtime loss to the New York Jets midway through the second quarter after suffering a rib cage injury.

It was immediately evident that Taylor had suffered a severe injury given the nature of his reaction. Even after attempting to jog off the field, the 34-year-old collapsed on the sideline in obvious pain.

The Giants rushed Taylor to the Hackensack Medical Center where he remains as of Monday morning.

“I don’t have any update on him. Prayers go out to him. I hope he’s okay,” head coach Brian Daboll said after the game. “He went kind of right down, and trainers took him right in. Right now, he’s there.”

Taylor had started each of the Giants’ past three game with fellow quarterback Daniel Jones sitting out due to a neck injury. He was 1-1 in those starts before entering the Week 8 game against the Jets.

Over the course of his career, Taylor has dealt with a multitude of injuries and issues, not all of them his fault. In 2020, a Las Angeles Chargers doctor accidentally punctured Taylor’s lung when attempting to administer a painkiller injection.

With Jones and Taylor both now out, the Giants will need to sign a quarterback — possibly two — this week.
