New York Giants quarterback Tyrod Taylor was released from Hackensack University Medical Center on Monday afternoon after spending the night under observation.
The 34-year-old Taylor, playing in the place of the injured Daniel Jones, left Sunday’s game at MetLife Stadium against the Jets with an injury early in the second quarter and was taken to HUMC for further examination and testing, where it was determined he had suffered an injury to his rib cage.
“He’s got ribs,” head coach Brian Daboll told the media on Monday morning. “I’m not going to get into what they are. He’s pretty sore right now.”
Third-string quarterback Tommy DeVito took over and played the rest of the game under center for Big Blue. The Giants lost, 13-10, in overtime.
The Giants are listing Taylor as ‘week-to-week’ at the moment. With Daniel Jones now cleared for contact, the Giants are still thin at quarterback and could add another quarterback this week.
“I’m going to go back up there and meet with Joe (Schoen) here, so we’ll talk about that,” the head coach said. “It’s definitely a possibility.”
There are several available quarterbacks the Giants could sign, including Matt Barkley, who is familiar with Daboll and Schoen from his time in Buffalo, and who worked out for the team earlier this month.
