Giants’ Tommy DeVito named NFC Offensive Player of the Week

New York Giants rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in a stunning upset of the Green Bay Packers on Monday night.

DeVito completed 17 of his 21 pass attempts for 158 yards and one touchdown, including going 4-for-4 on the team’s game-winning drive. He also ran the ball 10 times for 71 yards.

“It’s his job,” head coach Brian Daboll said of DeVito. “Third game of over a hundred quarterback rating. He made good decisions, took care of the ball, used him in the run game. Just keep developing him. He’s improving.

“Still got stuff to work on, but like I said two or three times last week, I think he’s a young player that’s doing the right things and making the most of his opportunity. He earned the right to play today, and he earned the right to play the next week. The kid’s done a good job.”

As DeVito entered the huddle on the final drive, he told his teammates it was on them to go seal the game.

“Let’s go win the game,” DeVito said. “It’s on us, on the offense.”

For DeVito, this is his first ever NFC Offensive Player of the Week Award and it’s the first for a Giants player this season. Previously, DeVito was named the Pepsi Rookie of the Week.
