The New York Giants waived running back Jacob Saylors on Sunday and quickly signed his replacement on Monday.
Before taking the field for practice, head coach Brian Daboll revealed that running back Lorenzo Lingard had been added to the roster.
The 25-year-old Lingard spent six years in college, taking advantage of the altered eligibility rules due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He began his collegiate career at Miami (FL) before transferring to Florida and then to Akron.
Over the course of his college career, Lingard rushed for 927 yards and seven touchdowns while averaging 5.0 yards per carry. He also caught 41 passes for 399 yards and two touchdowns.
Lingard was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars as a rookie free agent following the 2024 NFL draft but was released on August 4.
He ran a 4.49 40-yard dash at his pro day and hit 16 reps on the bench press. NFL Network ranked him 25th among running backs in the draft class this year.
