Giants select TE Michael Mayer in latest PFF mock draft

The New York Giants must address several needs this offseason, especially on the offensive side of the ball. They could use a few interior offensive linemen, a wide receiver, and some depth at tight end.

Through the first couple of weeks of mock draft season, those are precisely the areas we’ve seen analysts attack for the Giants. And that trend continued this week when Pro Football Focus projected Notre Dame tight end Michael Mayer to Big Blue in Round 1.

26. NEW YORK GIANTS: TE MICHAEL MAYER, NOTRE DAME

PFF Big Board Rank: 17

The Giants need to add more weapons around quarterback Daniel Jones, assuming he returns, this offseason. And while it would be ideal to find a No. 1 receiver at Pick No. 25, that’s just not likely. Instead, they take one of the best pure pass catchers in this class in Michael Mayer, who has a massive catch radius and the athleticism to be a weapon down the seams. Mayer would be an excellent value pick for the Giants late in Round 1.

The 6-foot-4, 265-pound Mayer hauled in 180 receptions for 2,099 yards and 18 touchdowns over his three seasons at Notre Dame.

In 2022, he caught 67 passes for 809 yards and a career-high nine touchdowns en route to Consensus All-American honors.

Although the Giants selected Daniel Bellinger in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL draft, they could use another quality tight end to help keep defenses off balance. Bellinger is a terrific blocker and underrated receiver, and he would pair well with Mayer.
