Giants’ Parris Campbell likely to see work at running back in training camp

Whether or not the New York Giants and Saquon Barkley settle their contract dispute, the team is likely to sport some interesting looks at running back in training camp.

In addition to the Giants’ stable of backs, wide receivers Parris Campbell and Wan’Dale Robinson (when he returns) are expected to see some time at running back.

It was something the Giants experimented with during the final day of mandatory minicamp in June, reports Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News.

In Saquon Barkley’s absence, new Giants receiver Parris Campbell did some individual work with the running backs during Wednesday’s final day of mandatory minicamp.

Campbell, a former Indianapolis Colt, took some handoffs on a delay and jet sweep and even ran as the pitch man on an option.

For Campbell, the experience was nothing new.

“I did it some in Indy,” Campbell said. “But it’s really my high school and my college background. It’s not new to me. It’s something I like to do because they’re using me in different ways. I feel like that’s something that I’m good at, too. Getting some reps back there is good.”

It won’t quite be to the extent that the Atlanta Falcons use Cordarrelle Patterson but it could be a unique wrinkle for Mike Kafka and his offense. The more looks the Giants can give their opponents the better, especially if Barkley ends up holding out into the regular season.
