Giants’ Evan Neal likely to miss more time with new ankle injury

New York Giants right tackle Evan Neal exited the team’s 30-6 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury and did not return.

The injury was to Neal’s left ankle and will be evaluated in New York on Monday. Neal was playing for the first time in a month after missing the Giants’ previous three games with a right ankle issue.

“It hurts. I’m pretty sure it’s similar to what I had in the other one,” Neal told the New York Post after the game. “I got long-armed and I had one foot in the ground and I was falling backwards and it was weird, I feel like I hyperextended it maybe.”

It sounds as if Neal could miss more time. Sunday was the first time he and left tackle Andrew Thomas were on the field at the same time since Week 1.

Thomas had missed the last seven games with a hamstring injury.

The Giants allowed eight total sacks to quarterbacks Daniel Jones and Tommy DeVito in the game. Jones was knocked out of the game at the end of the first quarter with a knee injury and could be gone for the season.

Tyre Phillips took over for Neal after he left the game.
