Over the last few years, the clock has been ticking on the New York Giants’ future plans with quarterback Daniel Jones.
As Jones entered a crucial season in 2021, the Giants went out and got him more weapons by signing lengthy target Kenny Golladay and drafting Kadarius Toney.
With those acquisitions, many thought Big Blue was poised to turn a corner, especially on the offensive side of the ball. That turned out not to be the case and, in fact, the Giants’ group of wide receivers were vastly underwhelming.
Whether you blame Jones or the rest of the offensive line or the lack of stability in the coaching staff, Jones’ performance so far with Big Blue was not enough to pick up his fifth-year option.
With that said, Jones’ 2022 campaign will go a long way toward his future with the team. With plenty of weapons around him, the Giants hope the new coaching staff can get the most of out Jones and company to see what they have moving forward.
At Wednesday’s training camp, Jones and Toney hooked up for an impressive touchdown in a connection that fans would love to see gain some traction this season.

Jones had great things to say about his second-year receiver’s catch early in training camp.
“Yeah, I thought it was a heck of a catch, to go up and get that ball. I think that’s what he can do. As an athlete, he brings that element to our offense. We’ll keep working and keep trying to utilize what he does well,” Jones told reporters.
Jones also explained why it’s so important to have a healthy Toney in camp.
“Yeah, I think it’d be huge to have him healthy and out there practicing and playing. I think he’s at a good spot. Mentally, he knows the offense and did a really good job this spring staying locked into what was going on. Excited to continue to grow in this offense with him and with the whole group,” Jones said.
Toney was, of course, a big topic of conversation earlier this offseason when the Giants were reportedly shopping their 2021 first-round pick. Once general manager Joe Schoen put an end to those rumors, we haven’t heard many negative things about Toney.
With a new regime in with the Giants, this is a really big year for pretty much everyone on the team as they will be evaluating the talent across their roster. However, for Jones, this season is as crucial as it can get and if he can build some chemistry with his receivers, it will go a long way toward determining how lucrative a contract he will obtain, no matter what team that contract is with.
