The New York Giants almost knocked off the powerful Buffalo Bills on the road this past Sunday night on national television without multiple starters, including quarterback Daniel Jones.
Backup Tyrod Taylor had the Giants in the lead for three quarters and then again in the fourth quarter.
So, what happens when Jones’ neck heals up and he’s ready to return? Is there going to be a quarterback ‘controversy’?
“No,” head coach Brian Daboll said on Monday during his presser.
Plain and simple although Daboll did have some praise for Taylor.
“I think Tyrod did a good job,” said Daboll. “Threw the ball on time, made some good throws down the sideline to (wide receiver Darius) Slayton, got the ball out of his hands even when there was some pressure so did a good job of leading his team.
“Obviously, the team thing of 0-for-5 in the redzone, that’s a team thing, so something we’ve got to work on but continue to do that, but I thought Tyrod acquitted himself well.”
Jones missed the Bills game with a neck injury he suffered last week against Miami. He had been under siege while the Giants struggled to field a serviceable line in front of him thanks to injuries to starting left tackle Andrew Thomas, starting center John Michael Schmitz and several others.
Daboll had no new information on Jones’ status as the Giants turned their focus on this week’s game at home against the 3-3 Washington Commanders.
“I have no update on anything,” he said. “I haven’t seen the doctors; it was a late one last night, so I have nothing on any injuries.”
But one thing is for sure — you can count on Jones jumping right back under center when the doctors clear him.
