New York Giants left tackle Andrew Thomas is expected to be a key piece in the revamped offense this year. He is the only returning starter from last year’s O-line.
The 6-foot-5, 315-pound Thomas missed four games last year with an ankle injury and underwent surgery to repair the injury this offseason. Thomas has been rehabbing and is said to be ready for training camp, which begins later this month.
“Rehab is coming along pretty well. I’m doing everything the trainers ask me to do,” Thomas said on the O-linemen edition of the Giants Huddle podcast. “Definitely moving a lot better and I’m prepared to be ready for training camp.
“It’s definitely frustrating, but it’s part of the business, learning how to navigate being injured because you’re never going to feel 100 percent. But I felt like last year I started to make some strides. It’s a little frustrating sometimes when you can’t be on the field with your teammates.”
Thomas is currently penciled in to start at left tackle next to guard Shane Lemieux, free agent center and guard Jon Feliciano and Mark Glowinski and first-round draft pick Evan Neal, the new right tackle.
The Giants haven’t had steady play along the line in nearly a decade and they hope this group, which includes several other seasoned veterans and promising rookies, can return the unit to prominence.
A healthy Thomas will be key to exactly that.
