Giant marquee collapses in park leaving three people injured

Three people have been hurt after a giant marquee is understood to have collapsed in a park The structure had been erected at Mayflower Park in Southampton for an exhibition which ran last week.

Emergency services were called to the waterfront park earlier on Wednesday with reports of the collapse emerging at around 9am. Initial reports said there were police, fire and ambulance services at the scene.

The park was closed while the incident was dealt with. South Central Ambulance Service issued a statement to say they had an ambulance and two rapid response vehicles in attendance.

A spokesman said: "We sent one ambulance and two rapid response vehicles at the incident who reported that they had three patients who had sustained minor injuries as a result of a marquee collapse. Two of those patients were treated and discharged at the scene and the third was taken to University Hospital Southampton for further treatment."

Southampton City Council is reported to have confirmed that the marquee was in place for the Seawork exhibition which ran at the park from June 13-15.

Hampshire Police have been contacted for comment.
