Main man: Gianluca Scamacca
(Picture: Action Images via Reuters)Given West Ham had gone well over 1,000 days without signing a centre-forward, it is little surprise that of the club’s six new arrivals so far this summer, Gianluca Scamacca has come with the most fanfare.
The £30.5million forward marked his first Hammers start with the opening goal here as David Moyes’s side beat Viborg 3-1 in the first leg of their Europa Conference League Playoff, a header won and put away with such dominance and ease that it seemed almost unfair.
