Ghostly face captured behind woman feeling 'very uncomfortable' on eerie island

Paranormal investigators have captured what they believe is a disembodied face in a photograph taken in an abandoned building.

The group was explored a building on an island in Co Galway, Ireland, when the spooky apparition showed up on camera.

It followed creepy happenings in the building- on a previous investigation, prompting the group to return and document their evidence.

The Paranormal Supernatural Investigation Ireland (PSII) team frequent eerie buildings and reputedly haunted locations to investigate the ongoing question over whether ghosts exist.

The group this week visited Inchagoill Island on Lough Corrib in Co Galway to explore after previously having experienced 'unexplainable things'.

Nine members went along on the investigation, which focused on the ruins of an old house.

The outline of what the group believes is the face of a man can be seen peeping from behind one of the team, who is stood in a doorway.

The woman had told the group she was feeling uneasy and frightened, and was horrified when she later saw the photo, which was taken with a specialised camera often used in paranormal investigations.

"The SLS camera works by projecting its own invisible infrared laser grid over a wide field of view and was very active as it was detecting images of people not in physical form," Richard Morrison from PSI told the Irish Mirror.

"We decided to take numerous pictures of the area that was showing us high activity, and this is how we captured this image."

He added: "In the picture you see two members of the public, one of them told us she was feeling very uncomfortable by the doorway and she was shocked when we showed her this picture.

"All nine members of the public said exactly the same thing of what they see, a face of a male," Richard added.

Alongside the face-like shape behind the woman's head, a strange red mist effect can also be seen. The team said they had no explanation for what this could have been.

Inchagoill Island itself is steeped in history, having been an early Christian Settlement dating back to the 5th Century with connections to St Patrick. Before it was a Christian settlement, the Island was inhabited by pagans - then known as Druids.

Its name itself translates as 'Land of the Devout Foreigner', and the island is home to an ancient stone carved with the name of St Patrick's sister and nephew, which is the oldest Latin carving in Ireland.
