The iconic Ghostbusters franchise is making a triumphant return with the upcoming release of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. The New York City premiere of the film saw the reunion of original cast members Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts, who delighted fans with their presence.
These four actors, along with the late Harold Ramis, Sigourney Weaver, and Rick Moranis, were part of the beloved 1984 comedy and its 1989 sequel. The premiere event also featured the new stars of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, including Carrie Coon, Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, and Paul Rudd.
Rudd, Coon, Grace, and Wolfhard joined the franchise in 2021's Afterlife, a sequel to the original '80s movies. The new film focuses on the characters played by Coon, Grace, and Wolfhard, who are the family of Ramis's character Egon Spengler. Rudd portrays a science teacher named Gary, who is a Ghostbusters enthusiast in the new installment.
Aykroyd, Murray, Potts, and Hudson all make appearances in Frozen Empire, with expanded roles that bring the Ghostbusters back to New York City. The movie also features Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, Celeste O’Connor, and Logan Kim.
The storyline of Frozen Empire revolves around the Spengler family teaming up with the original Ghostbusters to combat a chilling threat unleashed by an ancient artifact. The synopsis promises an exciting adventure as the Ghostbusters, old and new, unite to save their city and the world from a second Ice Age.
Gil Kenan directs the film, co-writing the script with Jason Reitman. Reitman, the son of the late Ivan Reitman, who directed the original Ghostbusters movies, continues the legacy of the franchise with this latest installment.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is set to hit theaters on March 22, offering fans a nostalgic and thrilling cinematic experience that brings together the beloved characters and introduces new faces to the Ghostbusters universe.
