'Ghost' caught on camera in creepy abandoned friary where human bones littered the ground

Paranormal experts claim to have captured a ghostly monk on camera after filming at a ruined monastery.

The eerie photo shows a “ghost” haunting the ruins in County Galway, Ireland, according to ghost hunters.

The group, who call themselves Paranormal Awakenings Ireland was filming at the famous medieval Franciscan friary of Ross Errilly when they captured the image.

The friary, located in the Headford area was reportedly established around 1460 and the ruins are among the best-preserved medieval monastic sites in the country.

After the friary was abandoned in the mid-1700s, tourists visiting the runs in the 1830s noted a large amount of unburied human remains at the site.

In 1835 English tourist John Barrow recorded his trip to the "remarkably fine old ruin ... in a disgracefully neglected state."

In his writings, he noted: "moss-grown skulls and human thigh and leg-bones strewed about so plentifully that not a step can be taken without encountering them."

It is believed that the friary continued being used as a burial ground by local residents. In addition to tombs that date from the friary's active period, many graves dating from the 18th through 20th centuries can be found inside the church walls, Galway Beo reports.

In some cases, tombstones comprise the floors of walkways and crawlspaces.

Pj Kavanagh of Paranormal Awakenings Ireland explained their cameras had caught what looks like the ghost of a monk or a friar.

He said that the image was very rare and unique: “Paranormal Awakenings Ireland were at Ross Errilly friary in Co Galway last night.

“We caught an image on our SLS camera while doing a ‘Live’ Facebook feed on our page.

“What's unique is the fact images always appear in Stickman format on SLS screen but not on this very rare occasion. We feel we have caught a monk or friar.”

Pj Kavanagh even added he has “never seen anything quite as solid as this” as he ensured that the pictures are “100% genuine”.

He added on social media: “Some of last night's investigation at Ross Errilly friary. All is 100% genuine. Have a good look at this still pic taken from SLS camera.

“I have never ever seen anything quite as solid as this. Usually in fact always it displays images in Stickman format. It's been suggested to me this may very well be a monk/friar. So it's over to you guys now to study and come back with your thoughts on it.”
