Getir is giving away free tinned tomatoes in Liverpool amid shortages of fresh tomatoes and other veg in supermarkets.
Getir, a grocery delivery service, found that in the wake of the shortages search demand for ‘tinned tomato recipes’ has skyrocketed by 239%, alongside searches for ‘tinned tomatoes’ spiking by 60% in the UK. In response, they're giving away two tins of cherry tomatoes on their app in Liverpool.
Over 90% of the tomatoes sold in UK supermarkets imported from Spain, Morocco and the Netherlands, where unusual weather patterns have caused a shortage of fresh tomatoes in the UK. This, alongside the rising cost of tinned tomatoes as the cost of living crisis worsens, have left many Brits out of pocket.

The offer could improve your health too, as tinned tomatoes have up to three times the amount of calcium and iron than fresh tomatoes and are consistently packed with flavour because they’re preserved at the height of tomato season. They're also a fantastic cooking alternative that can be stored for much longer, leading to less waste.
So, whether it’s for a warming soup, comforting midweek meal, or pasta sauce, shoppers can visit the app and get two free tins of Cirio Cherry Tomatoes delivered straight to their door when spending a minimum of £25. Getir’s offer is taking place in Liverpool, London, Birmingham, Manchester, Brighton, Bristol, Cardiff, Southampton, Portsmouth, Nottingham, Cambridge, and Leicester.
