Getaway driver said “we only got f***ing ten out of it” after gang robbed G4S van of £25,000

A getaway driver left a voice note for a friend stating “we only got f***ing ten of out of it” after a gang robbed a G4S van of £25,000.

Earlier that day, Shera Patrick, 29, had parked a rented black Audi near to the Lloyds Bank in Longsight, during a cash delivery.

Thomas Warwick, 27, and another man got out of the car and began watching the G4S driver as he made numerous deposits in the branch on Stockport Road, Manchester Crown Court heard.

After around 10 minutes, the two men got back into the Audi before it made a loop of the block and stopped again on the same road.

They then jumped out of the car and charged at the man, hitting him to the hand with a baton before Warwick swiped the IBOX containing £25,000.

Two days later, Patrick was pulled over in the same Audi, and inside the car officers found receipts for £436 worth of JD Sports goods and a three-piece sofa worth £1,500.

On her mobile phone, they found a voice note which she said: “Aww I’m s****ing myself mate.

“Erm, but we only got erm… f***ing 10 out of it or somat. I don’t know. I just tried to ring you then, you didn’t answer.”

Patrick, of Sale, and Warwick, of Manchester, pleaded guilty to robbery and were each jailed for four years and one month.

The other man, William Robinson, will be sentenced at a later date.

Prosecuting, Phillip Barnes, said at around 1.15pm, the G4S driver parked up outside the Lloyds TSB on Dickenson Road and had successfully completed three trips delivering the cash.

Five minutes later, the Audi A3 was seen on CCTV driving past the van before it turned left onto Rainforth Street.

“Approximately halfway along Rainforth Street, the Audi stopped in the middle of the road, and two males exited the vehicle. Robinson exited the front passenger seat, with a rolled up balaclava on his head and Warwick exited the driver’s side rear passenger seat,” Mr Barnes said.

The men could be seen observing the G4S driver’s movement’s before heading back to the Audi.

The Audi then drove off and ‘looped’ before stopping again on Rainforth Street.

“Robinson and Warwick both exited the Audi, both with their balaclavas pulled down, and both men sprinted along Dickenson Road," the prosecutor continued.

“As they approached the man from behind, he heard a voice commanding him to: “Drop the box”.

“Before he released it, he was immediately struck on the right wrist with what he described as a black club or baton.”

The court heard that Robinson had struck him.

Warwick, then picked up the box before they both ran back to the Audi which made a hasty exit.

As soon as he was struck, the G4S driver immediately pressed his silent alarm which immediately alerted national control for G4S, and then he activated a “detonator” which deactivates the box and destroys the cash, but was unsure whether this was successful as the box would have to be within a certain radius.

Two days later on June 24, Patrick was stopped in the Audi on Queens Road, and initially gave her name as her brother’s partner, but whilst waiting to be transported to custody, she admitted she had given them false information.

A search of the Audi recovered two receipts, one for JD Sports where £436 worth of goods were purchased in cash; and another stating she had bought a three-piece sofa and a large TV for the price of £1,500 and which she’d paid for in three £500 instalments.

After analysing her mobile phone, officers recovered the voice note.

In a victim personal statement, the G4S driver said he was not seriously injured, but was ‘shaken and traumatised’.

He added: “Nobody has the right to assault me while I am trying to earn an honest living doing a job which I have done for around 10 years.”

Patrick was said to have 17 previous convictions for 33 offences including robbery (when she was a juvenile) and making a false representation. She was last before the courts in 2012.

Mitigating for Patrick, Peter Malone said: “Unfortunate lifestyle choices and mixing with the wrong people over the years brought her before the courts, she has not been in trouble for a significant amount of time.

“The robbery wasn’t the most sophisticated, she took her mobile phone with her, she did nothing to conceal her appearance or the car.

“She suffers with anxiety and depression, she was receiving help for her physical health, but after going into custody she is no longer receiving treatment. She has lost five stone in weight.

“She wishes to put matters behind her and wants to return to her children.”

Warwick was said to have 10 previous convictions for 14 offences including possession of drugs, handling stolen goods and burglary.

Mitigating for Warwick, James Heyworth said: “This was an unsophisticated robbery, Your Honour has seen in its entirety the planning and execution.

“He is there in his shorts, he has a balaclava on his head.

“There is a letter from his mother which reflects a different side to the defendant and how bitterly disappointed his family are that he is in custody facing a long sentence.

“He accepted he was high on drugs at the time of the offence.”

Sentencing, Judge Elizabeth Nicholls said: “This was financially motivated - there is no doubt.

“This is seen by your (Patrick’s) spending spree immediately after the robbery took place, and the message where she expressed her disappointment in ‘only getting about £10k each’.

“It is likely you were each intending and expecting more than that.

“There was planning, this was not spur of the moment, and Ms Patrick, you played an essential role as the getaway driver, and you played it expertly.”

Both Patrick, of Gatley Road, and Warwick, of Thornfield Road, were jailed for four years and one month.
