On the eve of rookie minicamp taking place, the Indianapolis Colts announced that they signed seven undrafted rookies, who will join their nine-man draft class on the 90-man roster.
Kedon Slovis, QB, BYU
Dalton Tucker, IOL, Marshall
Xavier White, WR, Texas Tech
Craig Young, LB, Kansas
Trent Pennix, RB, NC State
Spencer Shrader, K, Notre Dame
Jason Bean, QB/WR, Kansas

Here is a quick breakdown of each of the Colts’ seven undrafted rookie additions with what you need to know:
Kedon Slovis, QB, BYU
Height: 6-3
Weight: 223
Slovis is a fairly experienced player with 1,660 career dropbacks over five seasons. His first three seasons were played at USC. In 2022, he played for Pittsburgh and then BYU in 2023. His most productive season came in 2019, completing 72 percent of his throws at 8.9 yards per attempt with 30 touchdowns to nine interceptions. This past season. Slovis completed just 57 percent of his throws at 6.4 yards per attempt with 12 touchdowns to six interceptions. With Joe Flacco on a one-year deal and Sam Ehlinger in the final year of his rookie deal, Slovis provides the Cotls with a developmental option at the position if he can stick on the practice squad.
Jason Bean, QB/WR, Kansas
Height: 6-2
Weight: 196
Yes, you read that right. The Colts are listing Bean as a quarterback/wide receiver. Bean spent six years in college, three with North Texas and the last three with Kansas, completing 59 percent of his career attempts at 8.6 yards per pass with 55 touchdowns to 26 interceptions. The 2023 season was his most productive, with 10.7 yards per attempt, a completion rate of 62 percent, and 18 touchdowns. Bean has good speed, running a 4.55-second 40-yard dash, which led to him seeing snaps at both running back and receiver in college. Bean averaged 6.5 yards per rush as a ball carrier with 14 scores. His teammate at Kansas was Chris Ballard’s son, Cole Ballard.
Trent Pennix, RB, NC State
Height: 6-2
Weight: 234
Another position change, but this time a full one. Pennix played tight end during his six-year career at NC State. During that span, he wasn’t targeted heavily, just 72 times over his career, but he was reliable, catching 76 percent of those throws at 12.9 yards per catch with 11 touchdowns. Pennix was excellent with the ball in his hands as a pass-catcher – I’m sure a reason why he’s making this change – averaging 9.1 YAC per catch this past year. He spent time in the backfield, carrying the ball 41 times, averaging 5.8 yards per attempt, and Pennix was asked to lineup all over the formation.
Spencer Shrader, K, Notre Dame
Height: 6-2
Weight: 201
After spending his first four seasons at South Florida, Schrader played 2023 at Notre Dame. For his career, he made 98.7 percent of his 157 extra point attempts and was 43-for-63 on field goals, including 13-of-22 from 40-49 yards and 5-of-12 from 50-plus. With Matt Gay under contract for a few more seasons, Schrader is a camp body, so Gay doesn’t have to handle every field goal attempt throughout training camp.
Dalton Tucker, IOL, Marshall
Height: 6-6
Weight: 307
The Colts had Tucker in for a pre-draft visit. Tucker has played almost 2,300 snaps during his six-year collegiate career at Marshall. The majority of those snaps have come at right guard, but he’s also played 388 snaps at right tackle and 220 at left tackle. Over the last two seasons, Tucker surrendered three sacks and 19 pressures. In 2023 specifically, Tucker ranked 51st out of 200 eligible guards in pass-blocking efficiency. By PFF’s run-blocking grade, he ranked 97th.
Xavier White, WR, Texas Tech
Height: 5-10
Weight: 190
White lined up primarily out of the slot during his career and is another player who was very good with the ball in his hand, averaging 8.0 YAC per catch throughout his five-year playing career. White has also been a very reliable pass-catcher, with a catch rate of 77 percent. Between 2022 and 2023, he totaled over 1,100 receiving yards at 13.5 yards per catch with four scores. White spent time at the running back position before returning back to receiver. He finished his career with 136 attempts at 5.5 yards per carry. On special teams, White has return experience, with 19 kick return attempts, averaging 21.9 yards per return, along with five punt return attempts as well.
Craig Young, LB, Kansas
Height: 6-3
Weight: 226
Young spent three seasons at Ohio State and the final two at Kansas, appearing in 49 games with 24 starts–although the bulk of his snaps came in the last two seasons. Young brings more coverage ability to the linebacker position, having played 933 career snaps from the slot. He’s been a very sound tackler these last two seasons and totaled one interception and four pass breakups in 2023. For what it’s worth, Young has regularly graded out well as a run defender by PFF’s metrics.
