'Get punished' - Ian Wright names two Liverpool players who are 'different ball game'

Ian Wright has praised the impact of two Liverpool players following the crucial 2-0 win against Arsenal this week.

Wright's former club gave Jurgen Klopp's side little joy in the opening 45 minutes, but the Mereysiders turned the screw after the break, hitting quick-fire goals via Diogo Jota and substitute Roberto Firmino.

And it was the impact of the Brazilian, alongside midfielder Thiago, who write has called out, when bigger names often take the plaudits.

Spaniard Thiago supplied the measured pass for Jota for score Liverpool's first goal on the night, before Firmino turned over the ball high up the pitch in move that eventually led to Andy Robertson crossing low from the left, for the number nine to turn home from close range.

Speaking on Optus Sport, Wright said: “You’re going to get (a reaction) from a team of that quality. They know what to do, they’ve been together for a while now.

“They knew they weren’t good enough in that first half but you can’t take anything away from Arsenal, they stopped them from playing. Firmino wasn’t on, I know he came on at 1-0, but it is a whole different ball game if you give players like Thiago and Firmino time and space, you’re going to get punished.”

Liverpool's win moved them to within a point of league leaders Manchester City with both clubs have nine games left to play, including one against each other at the Etihad Stadium on April 10.

The Reds will kick off their next Premier League game against Watford on April 3, two and a half hours before Manchester City play away to Burnley and by the time that the Sky Blues take to the pitch, Jurgen Klopp's side could be top of the league.
