Gerry Cinnamon fans face huge Glasgow hotel price hike ahead of Hampden gigs

Gerry Cinnamon fans are being met with Glasgow hotel prices rocketing ahead of his huge Hampden double-header in July.

Fans of the 'Belter' singer are counting down the days until the gigs on July 16 and 17 - after the original homecoming show at the national stadium in Glasgow's south site was postponed due to the pandemic.

However, it appears hotels around Glasgow have put their prices up ahead of the gigs - the second of which was added due to demand - that weekend.

When looking on Google Hotel, the search engine even highlights that 'prices are higher than normal', with no hotels available in the city centre on Saturday for under £100.

Earlier this week, a room at the easyHotel in Glasgow city centre was priced at around £300 according to Google. Now the hotel is sold out for July 16 according to their website.

Meanwhile, despite the average price of a hotel room in Glasgow costing around £200 per night on Booking.com, YOTEL in Glasgow city centre is charing £800 for a room on Saturday, July 16.

The Premier Inn off George Square is also fully booked that night, as is the Premier Inn on West Nile Street.

A room at the Travelodge Glasgow Braehead is priced at £199.99 for a room for two on the Saturday night, while the weekend after there are rooms available at their Queen Street hotel for £129 and their Central hotel for £95 per night.

Staysafe Glasgow City Centre on Elmbank Street is also charging £218 according to Booking.com for two people in an eight bed dormitory room on Saturday, July 16.

For some, it may be cheaper to grab a taxi from the city back to their home but if public transport can't get you back, you might need to dig deep for a bed that night.
