Gerry Cinnamon's sell-out Hampden Park show is being hailed by organisers as one of the biggest shows for a Scots artist in years - and they could be right, if the reaction of fans leaving the gig on Saturday night is anything to go by.
A clip uploaded to social network TikTok last night shows hundreds of fans of the Castlemilk-born star belting out hit song Canter as they leave the venue, holding their arms aloft as they sing together. Carol Rowan, the gig-goer who uploaded the video, commented: "When you capture a moment leav[ing] the Gerry Cinnamon gig!"
Speaking to the Record, Carol said: "The atmosphere was absolutely brilliant. Everyone just seemed to be in such high spirits and we never saw a single bit of bother at all."
She added: "After it being put off for two years years due to Covid I think everyone just makes sure now to enjoy every minute and it makes you appreciate these moments that wee bit more. It was a belter of a night."
At the time of writing the clip had picked up around 170,000 views in less than 12 hours, along with more than 200 comments and almost 10,000 likes. Fellow concert-goers and Gerry Cinnamon fans praised the clip as "happy people enjoying their best life".
User Donna_Krafty37 said: "The Scottish sure know how to do it!! Amazing all my best gigs I have been to were/are in Scotland (I’m English)!!" Johnjo added: "Brilliant love this great atmosphere that’s how things should be all time."
Derek Maley said: "Best gig I’ve been to at Hampden. Atmosphere was electric." While Sandy McLeod said Cinnamon was "a special type of singer if it can bring this many people together and create this atmosphere. Love it when this happens."
Saturday's show was beset with early problems after tickets issued by promoter Music Glue failed to scan at Hampden's turnstiles. Scots live music powerhouse DF Concerts has promised that the issues on Saturday - caused by issues with ticketing systems - will not happen again on Sunday.
A spokesperson for the event said: "“There was an issue with two of the ticketing systems communicating with each other at two points last night. This was identified and rectified as quickly as possible, and fans are thanked for their patience during those points. We are working with the system operators this morning to ensure this does not happen again tonight.”
Gerry, meanwhile, has thanked his fans for waiting out the gig following a delay of two years due to the coronavirus pandemic. He said: "Unbelievable gig. Unbelievable atmosphere. Three year in the making. Folk there from the four corners of the world. Cheers everybody. Been there since day 1. Means the world. Love yous."
Police made 13 arrests at Saturday night's gig. Fans travelling to today's show, which kicks off at 4pm and features Travis, Vistas and Jake Bugg in support slots, are being told to make alternative travel arrangements as Scotrail's temporary timetable is still in effect.
