Gerry Cinnamon at Hampden: Travel guide as ScotRail warns of no trains to Glasgow Central

Thousands of Gerry Cinnamon fans are getting ready for his Glasgow gig this weekend, but limited trains means they need to organise travel plans - or risk being stranded.

Gerry Cinnamon is performing for two nights on July 16 and 17 at Hampden Park after rescheduling his 2020 show due to the pandemic. This will be a long-awaited set for fans but, like other Hampden events before him, travel disruption is inevitable and ticket holders are being urged to prepare.

ScotRail has issued a warning to ticket holders, reminding fans that trains from Glasgow Central to Mount Florida will be busy after the concert. There will also be no trains heading back to the city centre due to the temporary timetable in place.

Bus replacement services will not be organised either.

In a statement, ScotRail said: "We'll be doing all we can to help you travel to see Gerry Cinnamon perform at Hampden Park on July Saturday, 16 and Sunday, 17.

"We'll add extra carriages where possible, but trains will be very busy, so we'd encourage you travel to the venue early if you can. The gates at Hampden will be open from 4pm each day."

Here's all you need to know about getting to and from Hampden Park and Glasgow Central.

Train

If fans want to get the last train home on Saturday July 16, they will have to leave early to catch a train from Glasgow. There will also be a very limited number of trains departing from Glasgow city centre after 11pm on Saturday night due to the temporary timetable currently in place. These are:

  • 11:05pm Glasgow Central to Neilston
  • 11:17pm Glasgow Central to East Kilbride
  • 11:21pm Glasgow Central to Gourock
  • 11:22pm Glasgow Queen Street to Stirling
  • 11:30pm Glasgow Central to Ayr
  • 11:45pm Glasgow Queen Street to Edinburgh Waverley

There will be no trains leaving Glasgow city centre after the concert finishes on Sunday, July 17 due to the temporary timetable.

Bus

The last Megabus out from Glasgow to Edinburgh is at 11pm on Saturday and on Sunday the latest one is at 10pm. If you're heading to Stirling, there is a bus at 11.30am.

Getting to and from the venue is a little easier. First Bus will be running buses from the city centre direct to the venue. Catch the X31 Hampden Express towards Hampden. The service will start from 17:30 with a service frequency operating approx every 10 minutes until approx 8:30pm.

The service will restart again towards City Centre, leaving behind the West stand (next to Tesco express) from 10:45pm until approx 12:30pm.

First Glasgow also operate bus services to Hampden Park from the City Centre on a regular basis. Services include 5, 6, 7, 7A, 34, 90 and 31

Car

The stadium is just a five minutes from Junction 1A of the M74. Exit onto Polmadie Road/A728 and follow as it merges onto Aikenhead Road. Please note parking is restricted on event days.
