Germany vs England: FA urge travelling fans to behave amid fears over Munich crowd trouble

The Football Association (FA) have written to England supporters ahead of tomorrow’s match against Germany and urged them to behave amid fears of crowd trouble.

England have been given 3,466 tickets for Tuesday’s Nations League game at the Allianz Arena, their biggest away allocation since supporters were allowed back into grounds after the Covid pandemic, but it is expected that some fans will travel to Munich without tickets or have already purchased those on sale in home sections of the stadium.

There are concerns over potential trouble tonight and tomorrow in Munich and the FA have contacted members of the the England Supporters Travel Club reminding them that they are, like Gareth Southgate and his players, “ambassadors for the nation” when travelling to follow the Three Lions abroad.

The FA also explained to fans how to report any xenophobic, racist, homophobic or anti-social behaviour and reminded them that they will always investigate reports of inappropriate behaviour at England matches.

Fears over crowd trouble are born out of this being England fans’ first away trip since the strictest pandemic restrictions were lifted and the fact that tomorrow’s game falls a day after the D-Day anniversary.

Alcohol will not be on sale at the Allianz Arena, while English police have confiscated 880 passports and are travelling to Munich to team up with local forces, with six ‘spotters’ and three or four intelligence officers making the trip. The FA are also sending 12 Wembley stewards and three members of their safety and security team to Germany.

The FA were punished with a one-match stadium ban for the disorder that marred the final of Euro 2020 at Wembley last summer and that will be served on Saturday, when England host Italy at Molineux. The punishment of a second game behind closed doors was suspended for a year, but the FA are wary that could be activated if trouble ensues in Munich.
