Coco Gauff has survived an Australian Open scare after last year's runner-up Zheng Qinwen crashed out in a huge second-round upset loss at Melbourne Park to unfancied veteran Laura Siegemund.
While Gauff moved on with a tight 6-3 7-5 win over Brit Jodie Burrage on Wednesday night, the fifth-seeded Zheng was earlier distracted by a time penalty before ultimately being overpowered by the world No.97.
Siegemund acknowledged she played "more than my best tennis".
