Gerard Pique will miss Barcelona teammate Jordi Alba's wedding this weekend due to personal reasons following his split with Shakira earlier in the month.
The Colombian singer confirmed on June 4 that they were "parting ways" for their well-being of the children amid 'cheating' allegations surrounding the Barca centre-back. Pique was allegedly caught in bed with another woman and El Periodico claimed that the pair had been living separately for a few weeks before the split.
Shakira hinted at disharmony between the pair in her latest hit 'Te Felicito' with Rauw Alejandro, with the 45-year-old singing: "To complete you I broke into pieces; I was warned, but I didn't listen; I realised that yours is false; it was the drop that overflowed the glass; Don't tell me you're sorry, that sounds sincere, but I know you well and I know you're lying."
With the pair now officially split, Pique will not attend Alba's wedding as he prefers to stay out of the limelight. According to Culemanía, the 35-year-old defender does not want all of the media focus on him and would rather stay away from the event.
Alba will tie the knot with Spanish Instagram star Romarey Ventura after seven years together. The duo got engaged in July 2021 following Spain's Euro 2020 semi-final defeat against Italy.
The 33-year-old left-back announced the news with a picture of Ventura wearing her new rock. He posted the image to his 13.2million followers with the caption: "She said yes!"
It is understood the wedding will take place at the El Viso del Alcor in Sevilla and Pique will also not attend the after party which will include some of the best footballers on the planet. With the news of Pique's split hitting the headlines in Spain and across the world, he does not want to spoil the day for Alba and Ventura.
Pique's football career at Barcelona has recently been in question due to a succession of injury issues - although he still managed to make 39 appearances for the Catalan giants in 2021/22. However, according to reports in Spain he has no intention of hanging up his boots yet and still has two years left on his deal at Camp Nou. He has been tipped as a future club president.
He has been club teammates with Alba since 2012 and the pair have won every possible trophy you can win during their careers. They lifted the Champions League in 2015 following a 3-1 win over Juventus in Rome - while the duo have also won the World Cup and Euro's with Spain.
