The Georgia Bulldogs overcame a 17-0 halftime deficit against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets to win 44-42 in eight overtimes. Georgia did not hold a lead during regulation and faced deficits of 20-6 and 27-13 in the second half.
Georgia won its 31st straight home game in what finished as the second-longest game in college football history. Georgia has now won seven straight games over Georgia Tech, but it is clear that the Yellow Jackets are closing the gap on Georgia.
Georgia won after stopping five of Georgia Tech’s six two-point attempts in overtime. The Bulldogs only converted a pair of two-point conversions in overtime, but it proved to be enough. UGA running back Nate Frazier had the winning two-point conversion in the eighth overtime to mercifully send fans home.
Georgia Tech outplayed Georgia for much of the game. The Yellow Jackets outgained Georgia 563-405. However, Georgia’s defense got key red zone stops throughout the game.
The game changed in the fourth quarter. Georgia outscored Georgia Tech 21-6 in the fourth quarter and forced a Georgia Tech turnover to set up quarterback Carson Beck and UGA for a game-tying touchdown.
Beck finished the game 28 of 43 for 297 passing yards and five touchdowns. He and the Georgia offense stepped up after a scoreless first half, but struggled with two point conversions.
Georgia’s next game will be against the winner of the Texas A&M Aggies and Texas Longhorns game in the 2024 SEC championship.
