The Georgia Bulldogs are No. 6 in the US LBM Coaches Poll after beating UMass 59-21. Georgia’s win over UMass did not necessarily impress the voters, but chaos and upsets around Georgia helped contribute to the Bulldogs’ rise.
Six teams from Week 12’s top 20 rankings lost including a trio of two-loss SEC schools.
The undefeated Oregon Ducks remain No. 1. The Ohio State Buckeyes are ranked No. 2 after beating previously undefeated Indiana. The Texas Longhorns are ranked No. 3 after beating Kentucky. Penn State checks in at No. 4 after winning by one point over Minnesota. Notre Dame rounds out the top five at No. 5.
The Bulldogs would make the College Football Playoff as the No. 8 seed based on these rankings and would face the No. 9 seed Tennessee Volunteers in a rematch in the first-round of the playoff.
Thanks to the chaos across the SEC, Georgia has secured a berth in the SEC championship. The Dawgs will play the winner of Texas and Texas A&M. If Georgia won the SEC championship, then the Bulldogs would most likely end up as the No. 2 seed in the playoff, which comes with a first-round bye.
The fourth edition of the playoff rankings will be released on Tuesday.
