Georgia football quarterback Carson Beck continues to stack good games. Beck’s four touchdown performance in Georgia’s 51-13 win over Kentucky was probably the best game of his career.
Beck, a former four-star recruit, is finally starting for the Bulldogs in his junior season. Beck completed 28 of 35 pass attempts for 389 passing yards against Kentucky.
Buy Bulldogs TicketsCarson Beck is now 6-0 as a starter for the Bulldogs and looks more comfortable in the offense. Georgia has a lot of playmakers and one of the best offenses in the country. After the Kentucky game, the Dawgs look like they could make another College Football Playoff run.
What did Carson Beck have to say after the midway point of the regular season?
Beck gives a lot of credit to the Georgia offensive line
Carson Beck has been sacked just three times on 196 passing attempts. Georgia’s offensive line has done an elite job of keeping the quarterback clean through six weeks.
The offensive line picking up the blitz helps me. Big time. Not only that, but the center, Sedrick (Van Pran), — and my study of film and seeing what defenses are going to try and do when they do blitz us, making the right ID as far as mike points and changing protections and all that stuff. Having Sedrick there to help me with that and then also just studying film. Obviously, the execution of it, picking up the blitz, but that’s a huge credit to our offensive line.
Georgia senior center Sedrick Van Pran is the best center in the country and a big reason for Georgia’s offensive success.
Beck on his passing accuracy
Carson Beck completes 73.5% of his passes, which is second-best in the SEC. Beck averages 9.6 yards per attempt, so he is not dinking and dunking.
As far as accuracy goes, I think that’s just a chemistry thing. As we continue to play and I continue to understand certain guys and the way they run certain routes, I think that goes towards the whole accuracy thing.
Beck on how he can improve
Carson Beck has already improved immensely since Week 1. Beck and the Georgia offense have become much more efficient in the red zone. Georgia is averaging 40.7 points per game, which is No. 10 in the country. Still, the Bulldog offense is capable of hitting another gear.
Continuing to move forward, I think I can improve in every area as far as it goes, as far as timing goes, little footwork things, the knowledge of the game, the feel of the game, trying to learn how to play football again.
Beck has a lot of talented offensive weapons at his disposal. Beck will look to continue to get the ball to Georgia’s top playmakers.
Beck's baseball background helps him in football
Carson Beck was once a top baseball prospect in high school. SEC baseball and football programs were looking at Carson Beck.
Similar to baseball, quarterbacks have a lot of pressure. Baseball pitchers have to decide what pitches to throw and execute by throwing strikes. Quarterbacks have to decide what play the offense should run and (if it is a passing play) execute with a well-timed, accurate pass.
I’ve been through a lot of things in my life that have helped me to the point where I can handle pressure. Being a pitcher, playing baseball, you’re the only guy that’s really doing anything when you’re up there pitching.
When you’re sitting there pitching, you’re the guy, all the weight is on you to sit there and execute. Whether you’re throwing 80, 90, 100 pitches a game. I definitely say that can accredit to the way that I handle pressure.
Beck on his biggest improvement since Week 1
Carson Beck is building up his experience as a starter. He thinks his confidence is the biggest area where he has seen improvement.
Obviously, the confidence standpoint, I think that’s the biggest thing.
Starting and winning six games has helped Beck, who had not started a game since high school, reach another level of confidence.
