An unvaccinated resident of Macon County, Georgia, has measles despite having no known travel history, and state health officials say the person had contact with a confirmed case from Pennsylvania, where an ongoing outbreak has passed 1,200 cases. The Georgia Department of Public Health confirmed the case (DPH) on Oct. 13, bringing the state's 2026 total to 22, compared with 10 cases in all of 2025.
The resident is isolating at home, and unvaccinated close contacts are in quarantine. DPH said it is working to identify others who may have been exposed. The department has not disclosed the person's age, when or where the contact with the Pennsylvania case took place, or whether the resident visited any public places while contagious.
