Following a recent shooting incident at Apalachee High School, Georgia law enforcement was promptly notified thanks to a new safety measure put in place just a week prior. Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith revealed that all teachers at the school are equipped with a specialized ID system known as Centegix.
Centegix functions by allowing individuals to press a button on their ID, which then triggers an alert to law enforcement indicating an active emergency situation at the school. Sheriff Smith emphasized the effectiveness of this system, stating that it had been operational at the school for approximately a week.
The official website of Centegix highlights the various features of the tool, including dynamic digital mapping, real-time locating capabilities, wearable panic buttons for staff, a visitor management system, and safe reunification capabilities. These functionalities enable educators to better prepare for and respond swiftly to emergencies that may arise on school premises.
Notably, several states, including Georgia, have been considering legislation mandating the implementation of panic alarm systems in schools to enhance safety measures and response protocols in the event of emergencies.
