Georgia football player Colbie Young was arrested on misdemeanor charges of battery and assault of an unborn child, as per Athens-Clarke County Jail records. The wide receiver was booked into the Athens-Clarke County detention center in the early hours of the morning, with a bond set at $2,500.
This incident marks the latest in a series of legal issues involving Georgia football players. Over the past 22 months, one program employee and 10 players have faced police custody related to driving incidents.
Youth spent two seasons playing for the Miami Hurricanes before transferring to Georgia in December 2023. During his time at Miami, he accumulated 939 yards and 10 touchdowns. The Georgia athletic department declined to provide further comment on the arrest, citing it as a pending legal matter.
The incident involved Young's ex-girlfriend, who alleged that he physically pulled her out of his room and later grabbed her from behind, causing bruising and redness. The woman was taken to a local hospital for evaluation of her injuries.
Young denied the accusations, stating that he only escorted his ex-girlfriend to the door when the discussion escalated. His attorney, Kim Stephens, asserted that Young did not commit any crime and expects him to be exonerated after a thorough investigation.
Another Georgia football player, Rodarius 'Rara' Thomas, faced legal troubles in the past, leading to his dismissal from the team. Thomas, who transferred from Mississippi State, was arrested on battery charges and later on family violence charges, resulting in his removal from the football program.
Despite the challenges faced by some players, Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart expressed the team's stance on disciplinary actions, emphasizing the importance of upholding the program's standards.
Young, who has recorded 149 receiving yards and two touchdowns this season, awaits further developments in his legal case as the investigation continues.
