Georgia basketball’s 10-game winning streak is over after the Bulldogs blew an 11-point lead in a 85-79 home defeat to the No. 5 Tennessee Volunteers. Georgia missed a prime opportunity to build its NCAA Tournament resume.
Down the stretch, Georgia’s offense got stagnant. The Bulldogs could not get a bucket and kept fouling Tennessee. The Volunteers and guard Dalton Knecht (36 points) knocked down their free throws.
Georgia played well in a rowdy Stegeman Coliseum atmosphere. Georgia suffered its first home loss of the season, but looks like a very tough team to beat at home.
The Dawgs hit 14 three-pointers, which is a season-high. However, Georgia went cold late. Freshman Blue Cain hit a few three-pointers late, but that was Georgia’s only offense. The Bulldogs could not score late against Tennessee’s half-court defense. This one stings for Georgia, who falls to 12-4 overall. Tennessee moves to 12-4.
Despite the disappointing loss, Georgia fans should still feel very good about the direction of the basketball program under second-year head coach Mike White.
Georgia’s next basketball game will be Tuesday at South Carolina. How did Georgia fans and media react after the Dawgs blew a late lead against Tennessee?
Felt like Georgia basketball was going to get a signature win today vs a really good Tennessee team.
Couldn’t hold on at the end, but Mike White has this team in a great spot.

Vols win 85-79. Wild swings in this one. Georgia had a 15-0 run during one stretch. UT closed the game on a 15-1 run. Georgia largest lead of 11. Vols largest lead of 14.

Great atmosphere and effort….but frustrating loss for the Dawgs and a game they had in control.
Take the positives and move forward.
But also stop running sooo much offense that ends up with the ball in 54’s hands!#UGAHoops

Shoutout to @Brooks_UGA and Georgia administration for making the decision the move the students down to the lower bowl seats at Stegman Coliseum.
Dawgs have a true home court advantage and it's paying off.
10 wins in a row and has #5 Tennessee on the ropes.
