George Mitchell is hoping to take inspiration from Floyd Mayweather when he returns to action at Alexandra Palace this weekend.
The unbeaten middleweight will look to extend his 4-0 record against Gregg O’Neill on a stacked Boxxer breakthrough card on Sunday. Mitchell is trained by Daley Perales and was able to watch Mayweather up close and personal when the Money Man beat his stablemate Deji in an exhibition in Dubai earlier this month.
The 21-year-old admits he was watching on in awe as he saw Mayweather live in the United Arab Emirates. He said: "Training in Dubai was the perfect preparation for my fight this weekend.
"I rubbed shoulders with stars of boxing and the YouTube world like Deji and Floyd has helped me focus my attention and made me hungrier than ever.
"Floyd is the kind of fighter that every fighter should look up to, and I certainly do, he's got it all. I've learnt so much watching him over the years and tried to add things into my style.
"Seeing Mayweather up close was a real treat. His defence is amazing, everything about his game is solid, even at his age he's proved he is one of the best to ever lace the gloves up."
Mitchell is a three-time national champion in the amateurs but has turned to former European champion-turned pundit Spencer Oliver to guide him through the pro ranks.
He added: "I’ve lived and breathed boxing my whole life since I was young, had a great amateur career, I can box but I can also bite down on my gum shield when things get hard and tough it out.
"I have a great team around me and I believe I can go all the way in this sport. I’ve sold a lot of tickets and really connected with my fans and I can’t wait to repay them on Sunday at Ally Pally."
The Boxxer Breakthrough show takes place this Sunday. Remaining tickets available here.
