Former Rangers defender George Edmundson got a souvenir from his old team's clash with Liverpool as Ipswich legend John Wark brought him a match programme from Ibrox. But that didn't stop Edmundson from rubbing it in that he got to play for the Gers - and diehard fan and former Scotland star Wark didn't.
Edmundson left Ibrox in the summer of 2021 after just 17 appearances in his two years there but has quickly made himself a fan favourite at Ipswich. He's started nine of their 12 games so far including their 3-0 win over Cambridge during the week and is expected to do so again on Saturday against Morecambe.
While Edmundson was marshalling the Tractor Boys to a handsome win that kept them hot on the tails of Plymouth Argyle in League One, though, his old team were doing battle with Liverpool in the Champions League at Anfield. Wark, a diehard Rangers fan who played for both Ipswich and Liverpool and earned 29 caps for Scotland, attended that one - and made a point of bringing Edmundson a souvenir.
Edmundson said: "Yeah (Wark) went to the Liverpool-Rangers game and he had a spare programme. We were having a chat just about Glasgow and Rangers. He came back in and he gave me the programme from the game.
"I collect them, all the programmes from if I go to a match or if I'm playing in it, I always collect them as a little gift. I should have got him to sign it!"
A local reporter then pointed out that Wark said he's "extremely jealous" that Edmundson got to play for the club he grew up supporting, saying that's the "one thing" he'd liked to have done in his career. And Edmundson laughed: "Buzzing!"
