MTV bosses have hit back at reports that Geordie Shore has been axed after 12 years on screen, saying that fans have a lot to look forward to from the next series.
It was back in 2011 that the Newcastle set reality show made its much talked abut debut, with locals and Tyneside MPs accusing the cast of showing the city in a bad light thanks to their heavy drinking and wild antics.
However,. despite the immediate backlash to Geordie Shore it quickly became a huge hit with viewers, giving MTV UK its biggest ever ratings smash and emulating the success of American equivalent Jersey Shore. The programme shot the likes of Gaz Beadle, Charlotte Crosby, Vicky Pattison and Holly Hagan to overnight fame, with a number of the original cast now established millionaires, as well as going on to have success on other TV shows like Celebrity Big Brother and I'm A Celebrity.
All of the original Geordie Shore cast, other than Gaz and Vicky returned to the fold as the show staged a huge reunion party in Newcastle last year where Charlotte cionfirmed her pregnancy, before many of the cast then headed to Portugal to film a reunion series.
In recent years, Geordie Shore has made big names out of the likes of Chloe Ferry and Nathan Henry but on Thursday it was reported by The Sun that the show will come to an end after the next series, with a source claiming: "Once those have been filmed MTV have decided to rest the series and will not be commissioning any more.
"Think of it as resting the format rather than cancelling it out right."
However, a MTV rep has now told The Mirror that no such decision has been made, commenting: "Geordie Shore has not been cancelled and continues to be one of MTV’s biggest shows. We can't wait for fans to see what we have in store next season."
