Tiger Woods makes his PGA Tour return this week as a star-studded field tee it up at the Genesis Invitational.
It’s an tournament that has always been one to look forward to in the early weeks of the year, but that has been enhanced further by Woods’ return and the fact it is now an ‘elevated event’.
As part of the PGA Tour’s response to the threat from the breakaway LIV Golf Series, events like these now have increased purses and guaranteed appearances from the best players in the world, with 19 of the top 20 players competing at Riviera Country Club in southern California.
Woods no longer finds himself in that category, as he plays his first non-major PGA Tour event since 2020, and makes his first competitive appearance since the Open at St Andrews last summer.
Scottie Scheffler has returned to the top of the rankings after victory at the Phoenix Open last weekend, knocking Rory McIlroy down to second ahead of Jon Rahm. There is every chance the best three players in the world, by a margin on current form, find themselves in a Sunday showdown with each other.
When is the Genesis Invitational?
The action gets underway at Riviera with the first round on Thursday, February 16. The tournament runs through until Sunday, February 19.
The final round will come to a conclusion on Sunday night UK time, with California eight hours behind.
