The Proclaimers have donated £3,000 towards a brave Ayrshire teen's upcoming charity ball to fundraise for the organisations that helped him while receiving life-saving cancer treatments.
Kilwinning teen Kieran Crighton – dubbed 'wee warrior' by friends and family – is hosting his Warrior Ball at the Riverside Lodge in Irvine this Friday night.
Kieran was diagnosed with a rare case of medulloblastoma, a brain cancer which mainly affects children, in 2018 after surgeons discovered five tumours on his brain.
Now, after a long journey to recovery, Kieran is hoping to give back to Glasgow's Children's Hospital Charity and Callum's Cabin.
And he's well on his way with a generous donation of £3,000 from Scottish rockers The Proclaimers and more from the Ayrshire business community.
Organising the event on behalf of her son, proud mum Senga said: "I've never organised anything like this before and it was overwhelming at the beginning but it's really important for me and Kieran to give back to those who helped because it was such a help while Kieran was going through it.
"Both charities are absolutely outstanding.
"I was a bit nervous about the amount I could actually raise when I first started out, given how hard it is right now for everyone financially. But I've been blown away by the support shown to us so far.
"I can't thank everyone enough for all of your support and donations. I'd like to take this opportunity to say thank Amanda Jess for everything she has done for Kieran."
Kieran developed posterior fossa syndrome as a result of his surgery and has had to learn to walk, talk and swallow again.
Kieran's aunt Wendy added: "Kieran has been called Kilwinning’s wee warrior because of the great strength, courage and determination he has shown to get to where he is.
"A friend of mine from the Lighthouse Foundation has a connection to the Proclaimers through that and she's kept in touch with them over the years.
"Initially she reached out to them to ask for something towards the raffle for the Friday event, we were thinking maybe a signed CD but we were just blown away when they donated £3,000 to the fundraiser.
"It was amazing.
"Jordan Nelson from Nelson Track Solutions has contributed around £1,000 to cover the costs of the band and the piper on the night.
"Jordan operates from the Halo in Kilmarnock and the founder of Halo, Marie Macklin, has also pledged a donation.
"We're just so thrilled with the response from everyone."
