Gender takes back seat when my racing gears are on: J&K racer Humaira Mushtaq

CHANDIGARH: Back in the circuit after two years, Jammu and Kashmir's lone racer Humaira Mushtaq recently warmed herself up at the MRF National Racing championships in Chennai. The only female racer on the grid of 25 men at the Madras Motor Racing Track, and in a traditionally male-dominated sport, Humaira isn't intimidated nor finds herself isolated, but rather feels that her gender takes the back seat when she puts on those riding gears.

The 24-year-old racer, who also is a dentist and has completed a license course as a commercial pilot, returned from Dubai last week after testing the MRF machines, which will be used for races in the upcoming season, starting June. In an interaction with TOI, the racer opens up on her experience of being back at the track after the lockdown, and the beauty of motor sports as a gender neutral sport.
