For years, adulthood in India followed a familiar script: “25 pe naukri, 30 pe shaadi (a job at age 25, marriage at age 30),” then a home and a settled life. Gen Z is not necessarily following that anymore. For them, financial freedom is less about earning the biggest pay cheque and more about having choices, whether that means switching jobs, moving cities, travelling, investing, building a side hustle or simply taking life at their own pace.
An added benefit is that social media, finance creators, investment apps, and digital communities have also changed how Gen Z learns to manage their funds. With financial awareness shaping major life decisions, homeownership is being viewed differently too. The question is no longer just “‘do I want a home” but “do I need to buy one now”.
