Gemma Owen finally mentions her dad on ITV Love Island as she's asked to do impression of footballing star

Ever since Gemma Owen entered the Love Island villa three weeks ago viewers have been waiting for the moment she mentioned her famous dad on the show. The 19-year-old dressage rider is the daughter of former Liverpool, Manchester United and England footballer Michael Owen.

Fans of the show have been listening out for Gemma telling her fellow Islanders who her father is. So they were excited when he finally got a mention during the ITV2 dating contest Unseen Bits show on Saturday night.

Gemma, who is coupled-up on the show with fishmonger Luca Bish, 23, was challenged to do a celebrity impression. In a previously unseen clip the teen was sat alone in the Beach Hut as she turned down the chance to impersonate her dad, but she did quote the BT Sport pundit.

She said: "There's no way I'm going to do my dad, but people always do the classic, 'If they don't score, they don't win.'” She added "It's something like that. It's some bulls*** or whatever."

@florencegraceuk cheered on Twitter: "Omg Gemma finally referenced her celeb dad in unseen bits!" @libbymmmeaney said: "Gemma’s finally mentioned her dad." And @fzyguitarz tweeted: "Gemma finally mentioning her dad so proud x"

@Harrysmaim shouted: "WE FINALLY GOT GEMMA TO TALK ABOUT HER DAD." And @asakeradar said with laughing emojis: "Gemma finally brought up her dad."

Michael, 42, has previously revealed his pride over his daughter's Love Island journey on social media. One fan @DonnyScouse said: "To be fair she hasn’t put a foot wrong, she’s a very mature 19 year old, she knows dads watching."

And Michael responded by saying "thanks Jacky" with a thumbs-up emoji. He also responded with a 'correct'' emoji when another Love Island viewer @audiijustin commented on talk that Gemma is yet to mention on the show who her dad is.

"She’s really good because she’s kept who her family are to herself instead of just trying to use it to win people over. I respect that," they said.

Before entering the famous villa in Mallorca Gemma vowed not to brag about her father. "I want people to get to know me for me - not just being the daughter of an ex footballer," she said.

"My dad was probably at the end of his career when my ex-boyfriends were born,” she noted. In her introduction video she joked: "It would be nice if I did score in the villa. See what I did there?"
