Gemma Atkinson announces new TV role on CBeebies after brief return to Hollyoaks

Gemma Atkinson has announced an exciting new TV role after her brief return to Channel 4's Hollyoaks.

The former glamour model played Lisa Hunter in Hollyoaks from 2001 until 2005, before rejoining for a brief stint this year.

TV fans might also recognise her from her role as Tamzin Bayle in BBC One's Casualty from 2011 until 2012, and again in 2014, and Carly Hope in Emmerdale from 2015 until 2017.

But Gemma, 37, is set to be moving away from soap land as she gears up for an exciting new career venture – presenting kids TV on CBeebies.

The actress and presenter has announced that she will be heading up the new programme on CBeebies – The Toddler Club, where she will invite young tots to join in with the songs and fun activities at home.

Gemma will present alternate days with Nigel Clarke, who is best-known for presenting The Baby Club.

The stunning star took to Instagram on Monday (March 21) to share the joyous news of her new career move with her followers and fans.

Sharing one promotional photograph and a further two snaps from the programme, Gemma notified her followers and penned a caption which read: "Yay!!! I can finally let you guys know that I’ve joined the @cbeebieshq team for their wonderful show @thebabyclubtv.

"This show helped me so much through the first lockdown with Mia so to now be a host feels so great!"

She then added: "To the parents & toddlers who took part, THANK YOU! This show is about showing all aspects of parenting. No judgment, lots of laughs, snot, tears and tantrums.

"Basically the everyday life of parenting that we all navigate in our own way. Thank you so much to the team for trusting me with my role, and to @nigelclarketv for being so welcoming."

Gemma concluded by adding: "Hope you guys enjoy the show and I look forward to keeping you & your little ones company in your home from April."

Fans of the soapstar-turned-presenter were quick to comment on the news, with many excited to tune in.

One penned: "You will be great on it. Mia is a credit to you."

While a second added: "That’s awesome. Looking forward to watching it with my kids."

After the announcement, Gemma shared a video of her daughter Mia exploring the colourful set.

"Of course, the first toddler to approve the set was Mia... she gave it 12/10," Gemma said.

Gemma shares Mia with Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer Gorka Márquez, whom she is engaged to.
