Geelong end Conor McKenna pursuit as AFL champions are linked with Mayo star

Geelong's interest in Conor McKenna has cooled amid reports Mayo’s Oisin Mullin is back on the Premiership champions’ radar.

Mullin (22) turned down the chance to move to Geelong last year.

In the meantime the club went on to win the AFL Premiership with Zach Tuohy and Mark O’Connor to the fore.

McKenna (26) told 7NEWS in Australia: “I’m talking to four or five clubs. It’s getting to the small details.

“My girlfriend is coming out so I’ll have to keep her in mind. It’s a tough decision.

“I went home and won the premiership (in Gaelic football) which is what I wanted to do.

“I was comfortable that I would come back at some stage.

“Having two years out, I probably learn to appreciate it a bit more and what mistakes I made.”

Brisbane Lions, Essendon Bombers and St Kilda are three of the clubs who have McKenna on their radar.

McKenna played 79 times for Essendon Bombers in a five-year stint before returning home in late 2020 and going on to win an All-Ireland title with Tyrone the following year.

Meanwhile, Limerick boss Ray Dempsey has added former Kerry midfielder Anthony Maher to his backroom team along with another Kingdom native, Mark Fitzgerald, a recent Kerry minor selector.

Also in Dempsey’s backroom team are Eoin Joy (coach), Kildimo/Pallaskenry’s John Chawke (goalkeeping coach), Mayo’s Martin Barrett and Michael Downey of Feohanagh/Castlemahon (selectors).
