GBBO fans left baffled as they predict major shake-up during themed week

The Great British Bake Off fans were not impressed after tuning in to discover Halloween appeared to have arrived extremely early.

People across the world celebrate All Hallows Eve on October 31, but Bake Off chose to mark the holiday on October 18 – 13 days before the actual date.

This didn't go down too well with viewers who joked that the Christmas special of the programme will air in the coming weeks if tonight's episode was anything to go by.

During the spooktacular episode, viewers saw each baker and judge slip into their finest Halloween costume as they prepared to cook a dish made with apples – an item of food synonymous with the scary celebration.

Taking to Twitter, viewers couldn't contain their frustration as one said: "Is it Christmas week next week? #GBBO."

"Halloween special 2 weeks away from Halloween and filmed in the middle of summer in 40c heat. Genius. Next week is Guy Fawkes special followed by Christmas #GBBO," fumed a second.

Before another went on to say: "I know there are more pressing concerns at the moment but why is #GBBO having 'spooky' week today and not next week, which is closer to Halloween? Is it because next week is #Christmas week?"

"Next week on #GBBO, it's Lent Week where no chocolate, eggs or milk, or ovens, or flour, or spatulas can be used," joked another.

While someone else tweeted: "Why is it Halloween week 2 weeks before Halloween? Why not next week or the week after? #gbbo."

While speaking to the bakers, host Matt Lucas revealed how he gets into the spooky mood, explaining: "If I really want to scare people, I'd dress as Paul Hollywood."

As part of the second challenge, the budding bakers were faced with creating S'mores by Paul Hollywood which are usually consumed around a campfire.

However, the task saw the bakers hit with a bout of nervousness as one disclosed they'd never made marshmallows or digestive biscuits before the task.

During the daunting task, several bakers revealed that they missed one essential part when it came to making the marshmallows – with some revealing they had left out gelatine, a key ingredient.

While they may have missed out on initially gelatine, it appears that the struggle eventually paid off with each baker producing some mouthwatering S'mores.

In a bid to create some laughter, host Noel Fielding opened up to Matt Lucas, revealing that his hamster was haunting him, before producing a marshmallow hamster from his pocket.
