Ayrshire detectives are hunting a 'gaunt' bogus workman after leaving an elderly woman badly shaken.
The 80-year-old was targeted in the Kilmarnock area of New Farm Loch's Kennedy Drive on Wednesday.
Pretending to be from a water company, the suspect managed to gain to access to the property at around 6pm.
Officers say that the lady managed to get the man out of her house before he had the chance to steal anything but she's been left badly shaken by the experience.
The man is white, gaunt in appearance, with a slim build. He was wearing orange work clothes and said he was from the water company.
Officers have been gathering relevant CCTV footage from in and around the area for any additional information on the man.
Detective constable Darren McDaid warned that bogus workers have no conscience.
He added: "I am asking everyone in the area to be on the look-out for any suspicious activity and to be extra vigilant when people come to your door.
"It’s possible this man may have approached other home-owners in the area or may have been spotted in other streets around this area.
"These people have no conscience and it’s imperative we prevent them from preying on vulnerable people in our communities."
Anyone with information is asked to call officers at Kilmarnock Police Station via 101, quoting incident number 2514 of October 6, 2022.
Alternatively, residents can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where you can give your information anonymously.
