Mystery surrounds why the gates are closed at one of Nottingham's grandest venues. Diners have reported being unable to contact or make a booking at Lakeside, a restaurant, bar and wedding venue, off the A60 near Arnold.
Opening had been reduced to just three days a week, from Friday to Sunday, but more recently the gates have been firmly locked during operating hours and phone calls are going unanswered.
Dan Russell, 33, of Giltbrook, has been trying to book a table in the restaurant to use a £100 gift voucher he was given for Christmas. Mr Russell said: "We have been several times before and always had a good time so we were given pre-paid vouchers for Christmas as a present and have been trying to book sporadically since the start of January.

"We can't get through to anyone on the phone and the social media accounts are dormant. It is a huge shame because the venue is great and the food was good as well. It's frustrating to say the least."
In recent years there have been several changes in ownership at the impressive building with a grand hall and mezzanine bar. The Grade II listed venue, dating back to 1873, was originally Bestwood Pumping Station.
The site, which boasts a stunning waterside terrace and fountain, underwent a multi-million pound refurbishment in 2017. It changed hands in 2021 in a £1.5m deal and had a further £7m revamp both inside and out.
Since then there have been mixed reviews. Alongside the praise there has been criticism about overpriced food and poor service.
A mum who took her child for breakfast with Santa said it was a "let down" despite the beautiful building. "Cold food and a freezing room... not worth the £50+ for 2 adults and a child."
Others complained of poor service and overpriced food. One woman said: "We had the tapas which was not cheap and the food was mediocre. There were only two waitresses in and the service was terrible. The terrace outside was full of empty glasses, no lights on and was not very inviting. Would not return."
But some were full of praise. A five star review said: "Had a fabulous lunch, excellent service, fabulous food" and one woman commented: "Wonderful anniversary meal. Fantastic service, food and drinks. Would 100% recommend for a special occasion."
Lakeside's last social media post was on December 22 promoting a New Year's Eve celebration with tickets priced £40 a head. The website remains live.
Nottinghamshire Live has tried to contact the owners for a comment but hasn't had a response.
