A ground-breaking community bike project at Gatehouse has celebrated seven years in operation.
From small beginnings, Wheels of Fleet has become a major link in the chain of pedal power locally.
The innovative up-cycling project reconditions donated bikes for hire with a bank of e-bikes also available for public use.
And on Sunday, friends and supporters gathered at its Mill on the Fleet base for the anniversary bash.
Speaking after the event, project co-ordinator Danny Alderslowe paid tribute to everyone for their support over the years.
He said: “I’d like to say thank you to so many in the Gatehouse community and from around the region who have and are still supporting our unique project.
“Without all our volunteers over the years, the steering committee and the Gatehouse Development Initiative, none of this would have been possible.”
Danny also thanked other bike projects from around the region, representatives from caravan parks and hotels, and funders for helping to promote and extend the project’s services which include repairs, rentals, bike rides, bike bus to school and popular repair workshops.
The day featured lunch served up in the Mill while outdoors Wigtownshire combo The Moot entertained.
Provost of Gatehouse Helen Keating was also present to congratulate the project on its achievements to date.
Highlight of the day came when Wheels regular and popular community member Jim Logan presented certificates to volunteers and more than 25 members of Wheels of Fleet Young Bikers group.
The afternoon also featured a new fun short film made by Danny’s son Robin called Gala Week at the Wheels, which was shown in the Mill.
“On behalf of all the team at Wheels of Fleet, I would like to thank everyone around Dumfries and Galloway who has supported us and we look forward to working with many to help increase bike journeys and active travel.”
