Those who aren’t already bored of smash burgers will be buoyed to learn that Copenhagen’s cult restaurant Gasoline Grill is coming to London.
Much-loved in Denmark, the burger joint might be comparable to the likes of Supernova in London, attracting long queues and gushing Instagram posts.
The restaurant will pop up at the Standard hotel in the King’s Cross from August 12 until September 15 and will be Gasoline Grill’s first foray outside of Copenhagen.
On the menu at Double Standard will be the restaurant’s famous smash burgers, Nashville hot chicken sandwiches, and a “surf and turf” number developed for the four-week residency. All will be served alongside crinkle-cut fries, brunch specials (waffles, pancakes) and drinks such as Two Tribes lager and frozen whisky cocktails.
Founder Klaus Wittrup said he was waiting for the right moment to take Gasoline Grill overseas.
“From day one, I have had an international vision,” he said. “When the chance to partner with The Standard London came along, it was a natural fit.
“The Standard is a top-tier, design-led hotel in one of the world's greatest cities, perfectly matching our values of quality and hospitality. We can't wait to bring our burgers to London and hope it inspires visits to our Copenhagen home.”
The first Gasoline Grill opened in 2016 inside an operational gas station on a side street in Copenhagen. It sold out on its first day, before earning positive reviews and drawing the TikTok crowd.
There are now seven locations in Copenhagen (including one in the food market run by the Noma Group), with Wittrup impressing that the beef used is only of the highest quality.
